Well, for a long time now people have been emailing me for this patch, and I've been handing out a quite poorly done machine translation. I originally created it as basically a test of the text injector, which is why I never publicly released it, and I always gave a heavy disclaimer that it was bad when sending it via email. Eventually someone started posting it around publicly, proudly credited to me, and it seems to be floating around the internet now as an example of bad AI translation. Which is funny, because this crappy patch was created well before LLMs were around.
Anyway, fortunately there is some good news; Back in 2023, the talented Gerb and Ockess made a proper, real, quality translation based on the extracted text, and got in contact with me. We worked together for a bit patching together a better ROM, but I ultimately never released it, as I was waiting on getting all the graphics translated, which required more hacking, and basically life just caught up with me. Today though I got another email requesting the patch, and I figured it was time to let this see the light of day, as Gerb and Ockess did great work and I feel bad just letting it sit on a shelf collecting dust forever.
It's still not 100% done, there are fragments of Japanese still in it, and the graphics still need translated, but I'm publishing this significantly better and (should be) fully playable English patch. Stay tuned for if the fully completed version ever comes out.

Currently I've made some progress on extracting/injecting the main dialog from the game, as well as a parser/encoder for the bytecode format they use for dialog. I ran the script through IBM's translation API and the results are pretty atrocious (but kinda funny) and at least the game is playable. I also used this as an opportunity to give Common Lisp a spin, because normally my homoiconic language of choice is Racket. Did I pick it just because the development environment is called SLIME? Maybe. | Currently I've made some progress on extracting/injecting the main dialog from the game, as well as a parser/encoder for the bytecode format they use for dialog. The officially localized game, ''Rocket Slime'', took a lot of liberties with the script and is totally loaded with wordplay. My ultimate goal for this game is to localize all the graphics, rewrite the script with a healthy dose of silly word stuff at my discretion, and put out a patch. | The officially localized game, ''Rocket Slime'', took a lot of liberties with the script and is totally loaded with wordplay. The Slime MoriMori Translation Hack is a romhack I've been working on which translates the original entry in the Rocket Slime series to English. For some backstory, "Dragon Quest Heroes" is a spinoff series from the mainline DQ games (which I've never actually played), of which only the second game was localized for North American audiences. The folks over at Aeon Genesis started work on this game but as of 2021, it's been unreleased for 13 years and it doesn't look like it's gonna come out. A group calling themselves "Team Rocket" successfully released a translation patch for the 3rd entry in the series, so all that remains is this one.

Maybe.
The officially localized game, Rocket Slime, took a lot of liberties with the script and is totally loaded with wordplay. My ultimate goal for this game is to localize all the graphics, rewrite the script with a healthy dose of silly word stuff at my discretion, and put out a patch.
